The New Forest is beautiful and offers various incredible attractions to enjoy

The New Forest is popular with visitors looking to enjoy nature, see wildlife and take in some of the amazing attractions. There are things going on all year round, including talks, walks, exhibitions and fun days. With a choice of picturesque countryside and coast along the Solent there is plenty of choice. You can spend one day on the beach, the next hiking through a forest and a third enjoying some rafting or canoeing.

About a third of the 200 square mile New Forest National Park is home to free-roaming ponies, sheep, pigs, cattle and donkeys. On a trip through the forest you’ll probably encounter several and get a chance to observe them. The animals are owned by locals who own or rent the land. Animal lovers can take the chance to ride horses at one of the locations that offer it. Pet owners are kindly reminded to be careful when walking their dogs and do their best to stop them disturbing the other animals.

One of the biggest attractions of the New Forest is the immense number of different cycling trails to enjoy. There are options to suit every skill level, from family rides to tough hilly wooded climbs. A special off-road and road-based cycling network has been created so there is great diversity and safe environments for cyclists to take in. The forest is operational so cyclists need to take care and watch out for both machinery and animals whilst they are out. There are many cycling shops offering bike hire if you don’t want to bring your own with you.

If you prefer something more sedate than cycling there are many beautiful walks and hiking trails. A lot of people take the chance to enjoy a picnic whilst they are out; there are even areas at Anderwood and Wilverly that are fenced off so picnickers don’t need to worry about being troubled by the animals.

There are several local attractions to take in during your stay as well, including the New Forest Centre, Reptile Centre, Wildlife Park, gardens, Hurst Castle, a steam railway, the remains of a Roman Villa and many art galleries. With different events on throughout the year there is always something going on.
