The New Forest attracts many nature lovers, and the arrival of winter does nothing to dampen people’s passions. This beautiful part of the country transforms into a picturesque winter landscape at this time of year and offers a wonderful winter break to those looking to get away for a couple of days.
Furzey Gardens is set in the heart of the New Forest and remains open all year round from 10am to 6pm. Located in Minstead, which can be accessed easily from the westbound A31 or the A337 Cadnam-Lyndhurst road, the park itself is not as large as others but it is recommended that you allow a full day to enjoy everything it has to offer.
If you enjoy a relaxing stroll among natural beauty this is the park for you. The scenic views are breathtaking and offer a selection of stunning shrubs, flowers and trees. One corner of the gardens boasts a large pond that is home to a wide selection of wildlife and there are plenty of comfortable benches when you need a rest or simply a moment to sit and drink it all in.
The other end of the gardens has a fantastic play area for the children to have fun as well as fantastic treehouses and connecting walkways. The little ones will be mesmerised by the secret fairy doors that are hidden throughout Furzey Gardens. They will have a wonderful time hunting for them and they can also leave personal messages and small gifts for the fairies. Also, don’t forget to keep an eye out for the Furzey Fairy Ferry.
The grounds also offer many other attractions such as the charming thatched gallery and 16th century cottage. The gallery displays a selection of sculptures, art and photography from both amateur and professional artists. The cottage has been carefully and lovingly restored and includes an authentic, period vegetable garden. The Thatching Experience demonstrates how thatched roofs are constructed and it is recommended that you contact the gardens for schedule details.
